What would you need it for? If "study" involves some sort of academic curriculum, you may want to invest in a "professional" instrument - not because it'd necessarily sound better, but because less questions would be asked, less eyebrows be lifted.

Apart from that, the Yamaha is a fine instrument. Also within reach (in Europe) is the Jupiter 675S which is a comparable instrument; although the Yamaha probably has a better resale value (should you ever want to upgrade).

the Gerald clarinet has by far the most innovations out of all of the top line models of what I call the Big Four: Yamaha, Buffet, Leblanc, Selmer.

Why do you want that particular clarinet OP?

oca did you mean Gerold? and did you post in wrong thread by accident? The OP was asking about a <€1,900 bass clarinet.

Both the Yamaha and the Jupiter tictactux mentioned are decent. IMO the Yamaha is worth its higher price because it's a better instrument.

Jupiter JCL 675N costs 1340€

What brand is this "Gerard"? I can not find info on google..

you think in terms of quality / price agreed Yamaha or Jupiter?

Leblanc Vito is good?

I play in the academy (in Italian: "conservatory"), with mouthpiece Lomax, Rocco Parisi model.

I have a JCL 675S (as in "Silverplate") and am happy with it. I did, however, not dare to touch the stock mouthpiece but instead bought a Fobes Nova which is a very nice not-too-pricey mouthpiece.

The Vito 7168, the latest Selmer 1430LP and the Jupiter are basically identical designs from what I gather from photos, with only subtle differences like adjustable thumbrests etc.

If all were available at the same price, I wouldn't know which one to choose. I went for the Jupiter because it came in Silver plate, and because it had a compact case (instead of a longish one due to the one-piece body), plus some more minor details.

Again - if you plan to sell it later, your safest bet would be the Yamaha.

The "Gerold" clarinet is a Bb soprano instrument which was recently discussed in a different thread. (http://www.gerold-klarinetten.at)

I believe 2000 euro equals $2600?

If that was my price range, I think I would opt for an older wood selmer or leblanc and have it overhauled. You would have to hunt for one. I am not sure they are available as much in your area, but I do see them pop up occasionally in that range.

Depends on how quickly you need it. I spent about 6 months hunting for each of my instruments and got steals on all of them.
