Gershwin Preludes

I'm working on the Gershwin Piano Preludes right now--they are really fun, but the glissandi in the first and third preludes are a little scary!

I can get the glissando to high-C in Rhapsody in Blue (most of the time (-: ), but I can't figure out crossing the altissimo break yet.

Any fingering/oral cavity advice to get to the altissimo B in the first or the altissimo F in the third?

for crossing the break try pulling your corners in, and just try keeping the pitch down with your embouchure while fingering the note you are going to. this works for me anyways, do it slowly till you get it to the point where you get it at the desired tempo. best of luck!

You're doing the piano preludes on clarinet? Who are the arranger and the publisher?

Where are the glisses? They aren't Gershwin's doing, so unless you just want to do them for your own fun, there's no reason not to play the scales or arpeggios from the original piano music.

Instead of going into the altissimo, gliss up staying in the clarion register by using the throat tone keys.

You can first gliss up to overblown throat tones (overblown open G for high D, throat G# for high D#...) then switch to "real" high note fingerings. It can be a little tricky, but it can be a smooth gliss. I find that it works best if you switch to real fingerings around overblown G/high D. Good luck.

RE: arranger and publisher -- the particular version I got is arranged by James Cohn and the piece is published by Alfred Publishing, Inc.

I bought the score at www.luybenmusic.com -- I don't work there, so I suppose I can make a quick plug for them!
