 Giardinelli Clarinets
Author: ddavani

I was over at my grandparent's house for Thanksgiving and my grandfather showed me his clarinet that he played in high school. It had some minor issues that can be repaired easily, however, that's not why I'm here. The logo on the instrument said "Giardinelli, New York" and all I could find was that the factory was based in Manhattan. Could anyone shed some light on the subject of the history company or the clarinets themselves? Any information would be most appreciated!
Thanks!

Giardinelli was a music store on "Music Row," 48th Street between 6th and 7th Avenues in Manhattan. They specialized in brass instrument sales, customization and repairs and made mouthpieces http://www.storkcustom.com/html/Johns%20testimony.html. They may have made trumpets themselves, but I'm far from sure of that. They had a high reputation, but the name has been bought and sold several times. Today, the name appears on brass instruments made in the former Czechoslovakia and possibly made to their custom specifications http://community.musiciansfriend.com/docs/DOC-2210. You'll find them primarily at WW&BW and on eBay.

Like many Music Row stores, Giardinelli sold "stencils," i.e., instruments made by manufacturers and stamped with the retailer's name. I'm sure their clarinets were stencils.

Wow. Thanks for all of your information! Once I get the instrument fixed up and try it out, I'll let everyone know because it looks like a really nice horn.
