there was a song called woodchoppers ball. I can't remember if it was Benny goodman or Woody Therman who did it.

It was by Woody Herman. Not Woody Therman.

Woody recorded it several times. It's intersting to follow the band's development in those recordings, reflecting as they do the "modernization" of big band swing. Incidentally, Woody was not a bad clarinetist - played a LeBlanc Dynamic H in his later years, I believe.
