Hi all,
I've been considering purchasing a new mouthpiece for my clarinets (buffet festival A and Bb) so that I may use my current one as a backup, and have a better one to use, or simply to have another option.
I will stick within the M15, M13 and M13 Lyre, but I'm not sure which to try. I've been using the m15 for years and years and it's starting to deteriorate.
Can anyone tell me about the M13 lyre? that seems to be my best bet, but are there any cons I should know about?
Oh I also should mention that I switch between Vandoren 3.5+ and 4s, and Rico Grand select 4s and use a Vandoren optimum lig.

Try all of them. You can usually order several on trial from Woodwind Brasswind or better yet since you are in New Jersey you could make a day trip to the Vandoren store in NYC and try all of their models there.

I'm looking also. Tried the Vandoren B45 and 5RV Profile 88, and the B45 takes alot more air to operate. The 5RV hits notes with more ease, but a weaker tone/volume. But...that being said, I'm just a beginner at this whole thing. YMMV.
BOTH Vandorens play SO much better than the stock plastic MP from Buffet.
I'm also open to try new products, but budget is very limited, to say the least.

I have a lot of experience with the Vandoren mouthpieces, such as some of them are longer in length which may not meet your needs. I had elbow surgery so I can't type very long. feel free in emailing me. savagesax@aol.com

I'm using a set of festivals right now and my M15 works very well with them. If you liked the M15, get another. Also, the M30 is a great mouthpiece as well and works well with the festival.
Really, the festival is not different enough from any other clarinet to really need any special mouthpiece. Any mouthpiece will work.

The general consensus is that most stock mouthpieces from almost EVERY brand are NOT good.
If you want REALLY cheap and very playable, I can personally vouch that the "Clark Fobes Debut" is cheap and very playable. Great to learn on. You'll also hear other beginner brands that are good ("Hite Premier" and others).
I have mixed thoughts about about the Vandorens, but I've played multiple M15s and M30s and they all seemed to be very good especially for the price.

I use for my Buffet Festival
Two mouthpieces Walter Grabner
К-11* (star) - it is a classical dark sound
К-14 - more free blowing, a wide and singing sound for a jazz.
Walter has sent me both mouthpieces and allowed to choose any one of them.
I haven't found forces to refuse at least one - both of them were very much pleasant for me, and I left both for myself.

Are you in high school? college? conservatory? a professional player? a serious amateur?
I think that everyone who can possibly afford it should get a handmade mouthpiece and a matched barrel, which will far outplay a machine-made mouthpiece such as a Vandoren and a stock barrel. Walter Grabner charges $345 for the combination http://www.clarinetxpress.com/, which is as low as is available.
You only buy it once, and you'll have the security and pleasure of playing something really good each time you pick up your clarinet.
