Esteemed colleagues:
I happened upon an old "The Buescher" clarinet on a leading Internet auction site, which I've since purchased for a modest sum and expect to arrive in a few days. It has an unstained Grenadilla body, wraparound register key, and German silver keywork. Cleaned up and placed upon a stand, it should make a nice objet d'art for my studio.
Has anyone reworked one of these old Bueschers? I'm wondering if it would be worth a rebuild, assuming it's uncracked and intact.

Interesting. I don't think I've ever seen a wood Buescher clarinet. The old metal Buescher clarinets are supposedly quite good so it might potentially be a decent player. If it has the wrap-around register key is is most likely pre-1930 so intonation might be an adventure.

Steve, I haven't seen a Buescher wooden clarinet this old, either, and that's what made it so hard to pass up. Most extant wooden Bueschers are from the post-Selmer acquisition days and are merely rebadged Bundys and Signets.
Something this old with the Buescher marque would be a high-end instrument in its day, otherwise it would have been given the Elkhart brand. Perhaps, as with some wooden Conns of the era, it's actually a French stencil. We'll find out when it arrives...

I have an older "Made in France" Buescher wood clarinet but of more recent vintage than you describe. This one is probably from the late forties through fifties. The only stamp is just "Buescher" with "made in France" above the serial number. I would not consider this a professional clarinet rather an intermediate model.

Yes, I have a Buescher metal clarinet with a curved bell that plays quite well. It is very rare, obviously.

I've never seen the "The Buescher" clarinet but I've had some Buescher True Tone clarinets. Very nice jazz clarinets, large bore, excellent keywork with blue steel (in the wood body) for flat spring touches. Great sounding, easy blowing. I think I recall seeing one on that one site with a wrap around register key. They also came in a Full Boehm model.

I purchased a "The Buescher" Eb Albert system clarinet from about 1910 a couple months ago, it is currently in the shop for overhaul. If I remember correctly, the body joints appear to be hard rubber and the barrel and bell are wood. We'll see when I get it back how it plays.
