To all Eb players: Do you play Eb primarily or just pick it up for the more important parts? Does anyone know of any good solos for Eb? Thanks.

I personally just play the Eb whenever there is a special part for it. Other than that, I don't enjoy playing it. There are solos out there for the Eb but they can get rather tedious.

I play the Eb Clarinet primarily. But I also play parts for Bb and A Clarinet if necessary. The solorepertoire for Eb Clarinet is very limited. There are some concerto's by Molter for D Clarinet (which I play too) and some 20th century works that I don't know very well. The most important repertoire for Eb is written in orchestral music (Schostakowitsch, Ravel, Schoenberg, Strawinsky, Strauss etc.).
I am busy writing a book about the small clarinets (all clarinets smaller than C Clarinet). An important part will be about the repertoire for the small clarinets. So maybe I will find some interesting solo repertoire and chamber music.
Also I frequently ask composers to write music for the Eb and D Clarinet. However the response hasn't been tremendous so far.
I love playing the Eb and find it a pity that most composers see it as an instrument that sounds very high, loud and shrill. Really, the Eb can play melodies too and even in the lower registers. It can play as low as the oboe! Also I find it a pity that most Eb players see the instrument as secondair, which results in a bad quality of Eb playing, which results in a bad reputation for the Eb. Players that are specialized in playing the Eb can play it brilliant.
Anyway, I love playing the Eb and I hope you do too!
