wuddup peepz, i jus wanna wondering how many people here have played the mozart clarinet concerto, i heard its' pretty hard. I enjoy listening to the weber ONE concerto, wow what a great piece! I want to be a great clarinet player wheni grow up! i was in the high school band!!!!!!! bye everyone ^_^

Dear Student:
I did the entire Mozart Concerto as a sophmore college student in a recital in 1949 (ancient days) ? from memory, yet! I still remember portions of it and use parts of it as short warm-ups even today. It is not too difficult, yet is challenging and well worth the effort you put into it. Some editions even have the cadenza written out for you with various choices from which to pick. I believe that it was originally writtten for A clarinet. That was the version which I played on the A clarinet. The notes are the same for Bb clarinet, the piano part is different. From this you can graduate to more challenging pieces. Don't make the mistake of trying to find the most difficult piece you can because you may not be ready for it yet ? example the DeBussy "Premiere Rhapsodie" ? be sure you are ready for this piece - it is VERY challenging!!!

I am a senior in high school and i have been playing the mozart since i began clarinet, about 3 years ago. The 3rd movement was the 1st movement i learned. It is difficult but not in the same way as the nielson, Btw... i'm playing the nielson for solo ensemble... newayzzz.... most of the difficulty in playing the Mozart is in the meticulous way in which one must excecute phrasing, dynamics, and interpretation... this piece though not as technically challenging as the Nielson is musically challenging... i consider it a Life Long Work in Progress!!

I've been playing..actually picking at the Mozart concero since the summer after I started taking private lessons and I love it. That was 3 years ago, and I still haven't perfected it, the piece is just kinda there. I did a performance with an orchestra, sort of a last minute piece to add to the concert and it soounded pretty goo the firsst and last movements a little under tempo. Though I am very determined to finsish the piece by the time I graduate from high school next near.

Just about everyone who studies clarinet gets around to the Mozart Concerto, I guess. I played the first movement in 10th grade--back then, we HAD to memorize for Solo and Ensemble contests. I also still remember it.
I played the third movement in college, accompanied by our Concert Band at the University of Georgia. It is fun to play--not too hard technically, but not to be taken lightly.

The Mozart is not an easy solo, in respect that it is played so frequently by so many. Many average students attempt to play it before they are technically or musically ready. There are so many varied interpretations, that it is rare to recieve a critique that is mostly positive-while music is supposed to be a form of self expression, we seem to be overly judgemental when it comes to accepting someone else's interpretation. The Mozart is a great piece, but if you are considering playing it for solo & ensemble or any other festival or competition you may want to consider another piece that isn't played quite as frequently. Have you considered any of the Sphor concertos, or Saint Saens Sonata? If you are intent on playing the Mozart, I would suggest listening to a few different recordings to get a few ideas on developing the piece, and TALK TO YOUR TEACHER!!
