 Specialized key adjusting pliers

I recently saw four specialized key adjusting pliers designed and made by Gordon Palmer (a woodwind repairer). I have seen or have some key adjusting pliers from repair suppliers but there aren't many and they are not that useful IMO (Ferree's, Allied and Boehm all have one for different purposes, Kowalski has several).

Gordon's pliers (which got the random names A, B, C and D) seemed much more useful, so I started making them. A, B and C are made from pliaer "blanks", actually bigger pliers with enough metal on them to carve. Pliers D are modified Ferree's pliers. I made pliers C so far (which are mainly for clarinets) and plan on making the rest eventually.

You can see them being made and used in this album:

They were made using a dental micromotor and can get into tight places otherwise difficult or impossible, with much more control and without damaging the pad or distorting the key.

Interesting tools. I am curious about how you did the shaping and cutting.

As I said, I used a dental micromotor. This is what dental technicians use to shape stuff. I used a bunch of carbide and HSS burs, some cutting discs and some sanding and polishing discs and bits. I can take a photo of the toold if you are interested.

Oh dear, the picture looks as if you got a little wild with your micromotor and cut up a saxophone!

That's the difference between a saxophone and an onion -- you don't cry when you cut up a saxophone.

Nitai....is that your original micromotor or a second one? NSK is rather pricey....

Yes, it's my "original" and I only have one. I did a lot of research before buying this one.
