What model? Selmer Paris Bass Clarinet, range to Eb, from 2004

Hi everyone,

I'm asking for some help to determine if I could use an upper joint from a Selmer Bass Clarinet, model 37, to replace the badly cracked upper joint for the Selmer Paris Eb Bass clarinet that I'm playing.

My clarinet was bought new in 2004, but I'm not sure what model it is... Was that model 37's they were producing back then?

Is the 37 a low C clarinet? And the model 35 it's Eb little sister? If so - does anyone know if the upper joints are identical for these two models (so that I could use an upper joint for my Eb clarinet from a low C clarinet?)?

I don't remember exactly, but I think they started making the 35 & 37 models around mid-90s, maybe 1994. So if yours was made after that (i.e. didn't sit more than ten years in the store...) then it must be the 35 or the Privilege/65 which they started making around 2004. So if it's not the Privilege and wasn't made ridiculously long before you bought it, it's the 35.

Yes you are right, the 35 and the 37 are the low Eb and the low C models respetively, from before they started making the 65 & 67. I am not sure if the upper joint is identical on both since I've never tried to replace it, but from what I remember looking at several of them, they seemed the same. I doubt Selmer would make different upper joints anyway.

I recently saw a very cracked Selmer 35. If you can get a new joint for it then great but I couldn't. It would be too expensive for the owner and he might as well replace the instrument, but he liked it a lot. This was probably the worst cracked clarinet I've ever seen. So I did several carbon fiber bands and pins plus a lot of gluing. AFAIK it is still working fine and it cost probably around 10th the cost of a new joint. Just something to consider.
