Hi, do a goggle search without opera, and things will turn up...such as

http://www.sheetmusicplus.com/title/Scene-and-Air-from-Luisa-di-Montfort/3007754

There's not much about MichaƂ Bergson on the web. Try:

There's no entry for him in Baker's, Baker's Opera or the Harvard Dictionary.

Grove should have something.

Worldcat has a copy of the music at http://memory.loc.gov/cgi-bin/ampage?collId=mussm&fileName=sm/sm1884/05800/05862/mussm05862.db&recNum=3&itemLink=h%3Fammem%2Fmussm%3A%40field%28NUMBER%2B%40band%28sm1884%2B05862%29%29&linkText=0.

You may find a path to the libretto at http://www.italianopera.org/compositori/B/c217182.htm.

If you're in college, go to the music library reference librarian. If not, go to the reference librarian at your local library. Either of them will have access to paid sites such as JSTOR.

Good luck. Lots of people have played the music without knowing anything about the opera, and a look at the sheet music shows that it's a more-or-less standard "finger-wiggler" set of variations on an operatic aria. Play it as if you were an opera singer, with big gestures and as much emotion as you can put into it. You'll be fine.

thanks Ken. I'm 44 but wish I was in college!! this is not really an assignment - but at my last lesson we looked up Bergson and learned about him - but not about the opera. my teacher said if I really wanted to know what the opera was about I could do some research. so far ive only found info on the composer and the sheet music but not the opera itself. i think it would be cool to know.
