Okay,....the Selmer full boehm in the key of A didn't work out. Do now have a chance at either a 40's Selmer with articulated G# for about 700 dollars or
a Leblanc for 200. Not sure of the model on the Leblanc but believe it to be a late 70s early 80s with "in line trill keys" and excellent condition. It is a "pro' line horn.
Any ideas on which might be the better horn? I am thinking the Leblanc simply from talking to a repair guy who loves Leblanc and only recommends the French line of Selmers which I'm not sure this one is.
Anyone know anything about the old Selmers with the extra keywork? What do you think. Thanks....

That would be a fabulously good price for a used pro line Leblanc in excellent condition. However, you need to play them both and pick the one that you prefer. You are the one who will be playing it.

I don't know about the LeBlanc, but I have an early to mid 30's Selmer (Serial K 3773) with an articulated g sharp and a low e flat. I'm not very experienced, but I'll tell you that the Selmer is a much harder instrument to push air through than my Langenus or Noblet Model 40. I agree that you should try them both out.

Two LeBlancs were sold on eBay today for about $250 each. There was an L7 and then another LeBlanc "purchased in '81". The latter could have been a LL or similar. My bid was not quite enough for either instrument.
I agree with playing the instruments. That is the only way to go about it in my opinion.
Jeff, it really shouldn't be that much harder to get air through the Selmer. In fact I find it easier with the larger bore. Buffet's feel "stuffy" to me and it makes me uncomfortable not being able to release the air pressure quickly enough. (Everyone around here knows I'm full of hot air anyway!) Really, you might want to get a different mouthpiece/reed combination going for the Selmer. I know that when I had both (I owned a Buffet from '74 until last May) I had to use a different mouthpiece approach for each instrument.
