 What Is This Pad?

I just replaced a pad for student. The clarinet is a Yamaha 250. The pad in the top RH trill key was leaking badly. When I took the pad out, it turned out to be made of some kind of white plastic with an adhesive backing. There was nothing on its surface to tear, but I think there was a small area in the seat that just wasn't contacting the hole.

What are these pads? I've seen adhesive backs on some Valentino pads, but they're soft and pillow-y. This was hard and seemed molded into its shape.

Would that have been a thermo-setting plastic pad? When you have them levelled you heat them with a hot air source and press them lightly into position while they cool. I came across some on a Vito. They seemed to work OK.
