 Quintet Encore
Author: TJTG

I'm playing the Brahms and Mozart Clarinet quintets on my senior recital and am looking for a possible encore. Has anybody got an idea or personal arrangements they'd be willing to share?

Rudolf Serkin was approached by a student who said he planned to play the Goldberg Variations and wanted suggestions for an encore. Serkin replied, "The last time I played the Goldbergs, my encore was the Hammerklavier."

In other words, you can't follow the Brahms and the Mozart with anything. In fact, you can't follow either one with anything. I think it's a mistake to play both on a recital. The Mozart needs to be followed by beer with friends. The Brahms is followed by exhausted sleep.

I think I agree with Ken. That is a heavy program. Having said that, a possible encore could be the third mvt of the Weber quintet. This would mean having to warm up the Bb Clarinet though.
Chris.
