I'm playing in the pit orchestra for my school's musical (Bye Bye Birdie) and would like to get a Legere synthetic reed so I don't have to worry about drying out. What strength should I get? I use a Vandoren 3 most of the time, sometimes a 3.5.

General advice seems to be to go a quarter strength higher on the Legere Synthetics. Nice reeds I think you'll be quite impressed.

Per Legere website (www.legere.com):
"Légère Bb Clarinet reeds play about ¼ strength softer than the corresponding Vandoren V12 reed.
Légère 4¼ = V12 4."
I'd recommend Legere 3½ since you're using a Vandy 3 or 3½.

They also offer a "Strength trade" option if you need top go up or down.
Like you, the V12 3.5 is my preferred reed, the 3 3/4 is pretty close.
Oh yeah, dont' heat em with a hair dryer, unless you wanna smell $15 going up in smoke.

Thanks! I don't use the V12, just the regular Vandoren. I'll see where a 3.5 gets me. I have a month until the show so I can trade if I get the wrong one.

They will trade but it took them about a month to send me the replacement. Maybe they were low on the one I requested. Don't cut your time too short.
