I have been asked to play at a local Gala in Ontario. I am RCM
10+ and 15 years old. Itis the second one I have done. It will be part of a trio - 2 violins (i also play violin) clarinet & piano (all gr-8-10). We dont knowwhat to cahrge as our fee. it is background music for 2 hrs 6.30-8.30pm. We have several duets, trios and solos (things like Brahms Hungarian dance No 5, Vivaldi violin duets plus accompaniment, Pachelbel canon etc). Any suggestions as to an hourly rate we should charge. we dont want too devalue becauseof the musicians in our community who make a living form these events but we ar also aware we are not professionals. When we quote the rate do we quote as a group and then split it or quite per person per hour?
thanks

Not sure what the Canadian exchange rate is but I'd probably charge $40-50 a person if it were here in Minneapolis and it were a performance by students. When you quote the rate, quote the total.

OH yeah, that's not $40-50 an hour; it's for the whole thing. My band which has mostly non-union folks in it and plays at a high professional level charges at least $100 per person for an up to 3 hour gig.
