 Patricola Eefer and questions

I recently purchased one second hand, it's probably 5-6 years old. As a "Buffet person" I am finding that this, though on Eb, is fantastic! I was wondering what people thought of these horns, and their larger counterparts. Are their Bb/A just as good, or do all the "bells and whistles" get in the way, needing more repair? Would finding equipment be difficult in this "Buffet world"? The Eefer I have is paired with a Rovner and Vandoren 5rv. Playing on a 3.5 blue box cut off. Thanks for opinions.

If it plays good, it *is* good.

Maintenance should be no problem. The mechanism is plain vanilla, with the exception of the articulated C#/G# mechanism on the Eb model http://www.patricola.com/?s=7&c=4&t=1, and no repair tech will have any trouble understanding or adjusting that.

Patricola Bbs and As have a good reputation. Enjoy your Eb.

You may find it hard to believe that there are HUNDREDS of clarinet brands other than Buffet; and that (a) they mostly sound just like clarinets, and (b) one can use 'standard' mouthpieces, reeds, ligatures, duct tape and chewing gum on them!!!!

Yes, Virginia, Buffet is not the only clarinet in the universe.

Thanks all. I know the opinions of directors etc. seem to lead people to think that Buffet is the only brand "allowed" for professionals to play. Then I see Ricardo Morales, playing a Backun and he is principal of the NY Phil. There are countless others. So, this being true, why then is the mindset stuck on "Buffet is it" mentality? In college, our professor MADE our studio all have Buffets....some couldn't afford that....and they received lower marks because of it. I want to believe that a good horn is a good horn, end of story. I also want to be employed. Where do we find balance? Open ended discussion here I guess.
