Hi:
I have a Lebnac Normandy clarinet that seems strange to me. The Ser# is 1488D.
It has the weight and inside light reflection of a wood clarinet but no wood grain can be seen. Its almost like a wood clarinet with a plasic looking coating.
Im lost and confused. I have a buyer for it and told him it was wood but now not absolutely sure.......

The plastic, ring-key system Normandys have ResoTone inscribed just below the Normandy shield on the upper joint.
Note that some Normandy models (Original, 5, 6, 7, 8, and Special) have wooden bodies but composite barrels and/or bells. Make sure you're checking the body joints for wood grain to determine the composition of the clarinet.

Hi:
Your right.
The bell is plastic but the rest is ??
It has all the features of a wood clarinet but no grain can be seen on the stacks....

Use the hot needle test on one of the flat end sections of the tenons and smell the result. This is not a high quality instrument and the damage to it is very minimal and easily covered over with a small fine file.
Wow ! I can hear the 'shock & horror' reactions now !
"He's suggesting that you BURN YOUR CLARINET " !
Don't forget to wear suitable gloves.

If you follow Barrys advice and you get high, well it's probably plastic or the horn is made up of tightly wound green stuff usually noted as grass!
