I find it manufactured in 1985 and selling for $350. I see RC Prestige models going for much much more. Is there something about this that I should know about?
I don't have the ability to play before purchase.

To be honest, some of us are getting tired of your continually asking
the Board to evaluate current eBay offerings for you. Are you shilling
for sellers? Or do you just want to have someone to blame if you make a
bad buy? Have you read the bulletin board rules?
In this case, I will simply say that originally you asked the wrong
question. The right answer to the wrong question can lead to a bad
decision -- and it certainly would in this case. (BTW, if the
instrument was actually what the seller claimed, I would have bought it
on the spot instead of posting this message and so would many of the
other Board members who found it before me. With a little work, one
could flip it for 3 or 4 times what the seller is asking.)
There are good buys on eBay for people who know what they are doing but eBay is fraught with pitfalls for the ignorant. You obviously don't
know what you are doing. If you really are on a cruise ship and really
do want a clarinet to fool around with, I would advise you to wait until
you get to port and then go to a reputable music store.
jnk
You may think I'm being a little harsh and nasty here but consider that,
if I really wanted to be nasty, while being absolutely truthful, I could
have posted the following response:
An RC Prestige for $350 is a very good price. Sometimes sellers who
don't know what they have for sale significantly undervalue their
items. It doesn't happen often but it does happen. A few years ago, I
bought an R13 made in 1981 for $250 on eBay. If I could buy an RC
Prestige for $350, I'd snap it up. Buy the clarinet before someone else
gets it.

You have stated that youi are trying to get back in to playing clarinet after a long time off, so here is some advice for you:
Don't buy a clarinet off of e-bay if you can't play it or inspect it first.
Unless you are buying from a seller who you know is a reputable dealer or repair technician then you should expect that it will need significant repair work no matter how much the seller claims to the contrary. When you are just starting out or restarting after a long absence the last thing you need is to be fighting with an instrument that isn't in good playing shape.
I have purchased many clarinets off of e-bay and have never gotten one that was ready to play out of the box even if the seller claimed that it was just overhauled by a professional repair technician. I always assume that any instrument listed on e-bay will need a complete overhaul.
If I were in your place I would forget about trying to find a wooden Buffet and instead get a plastic Yamaha student clarinet. You can get one of these for <$200 in most cases when purchased from dealers and they are some of the most consistent instruments on the market so you don't need to worry about getting a "bad" one.
Save your money for a professional clarinet until you have been back playing long enough that you can properly evaluate instruments by play testing them and can pick out an instruments that plays well for you.

Hey Jack,
You need to not take yourself and this forum so seriously. Yes I am a guitar player on a cruise ship, and yes, you are correct when saying that I am ignorant when it comes to buying a clarinet. Yes I used to play as a kid and wanted to fool around with it again.
It is unfortunate that a person who freely admits ignorance on a certain subject, has to read something like your last response. And I take umbrage at your statement, "Are you shilling for sellers?"
I came to this forum sincerely looking for help. In the beginning you SEEMED very helpful. Your copying my original post to the forum moderator I found interesting. I also find it very interesting that you cannot believe that there might be someone out there needing help and guidance. I found Steve G's reply much more helpful than yours. Though I think I understand now that you are not really trying to help, just protect your beloved forum.
You sound a little skeptical and negative. I thought these forums were where people like myself go to ask legitimate questions on a subject they no nothing about. I looked up to you and like a dummy would still probably ask you questions because I thought that was how you learn. I would certainly welcome any newcomer to whatever forum I was on and help them to understand more about whatever subject was in question.
Apparently I didn't follow proper protocol. I think the only thing I am guilty of is persistence. If that irritates some people then I am sorry. But I do have a lot to learn about buying clarinets and even purchasing them on ebay. Never even done that before.
I came here under no false pretenses. I did gain of lot of knowledge from most of the people who posted replies.
And let me apologize to everyone for taking up this much space in my response. And I'm sure Jack is just champing at the bit to tell me that this post is not appropriate for this forum.
So Jack, to use a vernacular, "Take a chill pill." Easy tiger. I meant no harm.
