Cork Pads

Does anybody know what cork pads do to the sound of a clarinet. I know most pro horns at least have a cork register pad, but some have the entire upper joint. What does it do to sound, feel, response, resonance, intonation, tone, tune, ect?

If it is done correctly it has little or no effect on any of the things you mentioned. Some people say it makes the instrument a little brighter but I can't hear the difference.

What you get is pads that last longer and are much less subject to water damage.

I've been using all cork pads on my upper joint (R13) since the late 1960's. Mr Van Cott' experience is similar to mine....can't tell the tonal difference, pads last longer, maybe the LH and trill keys feel a bit more dense when they seat (can't describe it any other way)...you need a good repairman using good cork to do this right...
