Hello everyone,
I'm visiting from the oboe list. I recently purchased a big box of oboe reed-making supplies on eBay from someone whose father played int he Baden-Baden orchestra here in Germany from 1950 on. Among the goodies I was surprised to find what I am pretty sure are 35 clarinet reed blanks.
Today I gouged, shaped, and made three reeds from some of the oboe cane that was included. It's the most golden, hard, straight, gorgeous cane I have ever seen or touched, which was clear from the moment I set the gouger blade to each piece. This is really old stuff, at a very minimum 30 years old, because the gentleman died at that time. I have three of the best reeds I've ever made at this moment...
So, very likely, I have here some lovely clarinet reeds waiting to be made. Can anyone advise me as to how to be sure that they are indeed clarinet blanks? Also, if anyone would like to buy them, you're welcome to contact me with an offer.

Could you send me some pitcures about that stuff? I would be interested in buying reed blanks or cane tubes for Bb clarinet.
Thanks,
Mark

If they are blanks, sanded down to a smooth finish at the bottom of the blank they should also be tapered, one end of the cane is thinner in the back of the reed and the blank thickness should measure around .110" to .125"

Hello again, and thanks for your interest. Here are some pictures. The blanks are exactly 3 mm thick. They are 66-67 mm long. The width is quite standard, but a couple of them vary slightly.

Thank you for the pitcures. Because forum topics are not for trading, I suggest we should contact via e-mails in the future.
