Folks-
Finally digging into the pile of Penzel Mueller Albert system clarinets I bought, over 15 Bb and Eb clarinets plus a box of wooden flutes by P.M.
The 1st flute I finished and I noticed something strange on the logo, and after checking on the clarinets and the rest of the flutes they all have the same thing:
The standard P.M. "eagle" trademark, but, in the center between "Penzel Mueller" and "New York" is stamped "& Pruefer Inc.
Every one has this, and, it sure looks like the Pruefer was added 2nd because its never quite in the same location in the oval.
All of these are military horns, they have Navy and Marine numbers on alot of them.
I never heard of these 2 companies actually collaborating, I wonder who did what?

That is weird! I've seen/had/have many Penzel-Mueller clarinets and a few Pruefers but have never seen any link between them.

This is very interesting. It seems that Gustav Pruefer was a VP with Penzel-Mueller starting around 1920 but I can't find out that they ever merged manufacturing.

My thought was maybe they teamed up for some governments contract?

Mark--
Have you considerred setting up a blog or website for your big Albert System refurbishing extravaganza? I'm reading all these posts and find the whole process very interesting.
I'd definitely follow what you're doing---the before and after stuff, the different makes, etc etc etc.--The History Channel should be asking you for a footage. Real Americana.
Any chance you'll set up a big Internet Albert System shop when you're done?
Thanks for all these posts, man.
Eric

I'll second Eric's suggestion. A blog or website dedicated to your restoration efforts would be pretty cool. I always enjoy discussing these older, under-appreciated instruments. I also happen to be kind of a P-M junkie as I own about a dozen of them.

Ya'll have me dialed, I am in fact going to post pics of all these clarinets and flutes, there will be a blogspot page with info etc.
Hopefully in the next week or so. I'm finishing up a clarinet now and have pics for another clarinet and flute to put up too.
As for a shop, well, most of these go to Greek players that I have been put in touch with, or local players, or Ebay, where often times they end up going to Greek players!
I'll post when its up, then hopefully it will be easy to update as I go, since I have to take pics anyway to sell them.
thanks!

=====================================
Pruefer was part of Penzel-Mueller-Pruefer from 1911 to 1920. In 1920 Penzel died, Mueller took over company and Pruefer retired to open his own company a year later
