The brilliant Curzio Petraglio lifts his clarinet at around 3:30 to make that C7 you talk about.

I wonder if the lifting of his clarinet is more than just emotional, in that maybe it causes subtle changes in his embouchure that facilitate his hitting that C7, and doing so in key.
