 B&H Clarinet Serial
Author: cm2211

I've been looking on here, other sites, google etc... and am unable to find my exact Boosey and Hawkes serial. The serial that is on my clarinet is N 94856, but when I look up the serial, nothing comes up. When looking on the list here on how old something is, it goes to 93xxx (1967) straight to 99xxx (1968). Does this mean since mine is 94xxx it was made sometime during 67-68? I hope you can excuse my ignorance.

Most B&H serial numbers you'll find are way out (and they know it!) - 94856 is from the early '50s and not from the late '60s.

Does this mean mine has the pot metal keys? I have an Edgware.

Edgwares were made right up until B&H stopped making clarinets in the '80s - I think they were first introduced in the '40s.

The Edgware has the same bore and tonehole layout as the Regent (the model below it), the Emperor (the one above it) and the Imperial 926 (B&H's equivalent of the R13 - but they're very different instruments).

The Edgware would be in the same price range as the Buffet E11 and Yamaha 450 if they were still being made today.

The Edgware keys should be OK, I'm pretty sure the pot metal keys were found on the Regent. Your serial number is from 1953.

I agree with Tony that the Edgware model didn't use the potmetal keys. I have several Edgware's of different vintages ranging from the 50's through the 70's and none of them have potmetal keys.
