Hello..
I just thought I would ask everyone what is essential/good to get for maintaining a new wooden clarinet. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. My daughter did, however, pick the E-11, after she played a R-13, E-12, and E-13... Thanks for all the help!

Essentials are cork grease for the tenon corks, and weighted swab to remove moisture during and after playing. A clarinet stand is a very good idea. Follow the manufacturer's instructions on care of the clarinet.

About the swab, I like the ones that have a pull string at both ends. If it gets stuck, you may back it out the other direction.
Don't pay a fortune for these, you could make one out of left over ties (you remember those Amoeba patterns from the 80's) or a standard hanky.
A Dampit humidifier is a real good investment for the winter months. It rides in the case with the horn.
If the thumbrest is not adjustable, check out the Ton Kooiman "Etude" (I know, this is not an essential item.)
A small screw driver to tighten any loose screw before you get back to the repairman might be handy, too.
Good call on the E-11, they're really nice horns.

I would go for a silk swab instead of having to get a swab with two strings. Silk very rarily gets stuck. And of cousre you always need a good cork grease- not greasey sheap stuff that not only greases the corks buit your hands your cloths and the case. Well, good luck, I know she'll enjoy her new horn, the E11 is a great horn to play!

Essential: cork grease and swab, as mentioned above
Good: key oil, used sparingly and infrequently; reed holder; screwdriver - size found in eyeglass repair kit, usually available at pharmacy
Questionable and controversial: bore oil - see manufacturer's recommendations, shouldn't need to be used very often; case humidifier - there have been many posts on this board saying to avoid dampits and if climate requires humidifier, homemade ones are better
Nice to have, but not necessary: clarinet stand
