 Round back key cups???
Author: klook

I just found a really cool old clarinet in this box of stuff I bought a few weeks back. Its marked Wurlitzer and its a C clarinet, LP too!

Its Albert system (the lower end is very interesting, I'll have to post picks) but the really neat thing is the key cups are rounded in the back instead of flat.

What kind of pads should I use on this? The originals are leather but I'm not sure how a flat back pad will fit nicely into a round backed cup.

Anyone?

You can use standard leather pads with flat backs in the old 'salt-spoon' cups, but you will need to fill the cups in with shellac.

Use pads that are 1mm narrower in diameter than the pad cup (as you'd normally do with modern cups) so you can float the pads on the shellac to seat them in the usual way.
