So I currently play on Vandoren Traditionals and am interested in trying something different. ^-^
Does anyone play on Razzco? Whether it be the passion, vintage or razz? And what grade of strength would you recommend? I played on a 2.5 but actually think I want to go up a half strength.
I'm mostly looking into passion since it seems to be their top line and really want to feel/hear a difference. But again any info in general would be appreciated. Including where to buy them since they're not really in stores here in NYC :/.

Razz: One of, if not the worst reed available. Uneven cuts within a box, tip cutting looks like it's been done with scissors! Not worth anything and a waste of cane.
Vintage: not as reliable as they have been in the past. Stuffy sound and a heavy feel.
Passion: a very good alternative to the big names. I have used them
In numerous concerts and recordings and find they respond best in low humidity climates. I find them most similar in playing response to V12's.

O wow ok haha. So the passions seem much more expensive than V12s, do you think it's worth spending that extra money?
Are there any other brands I should seriously consider maybe?

Hi fellow oboist!
I'd try Canyes Xilema and Gonzalez reeds. I've got 2 of each Canyes Xilema Artesana, Gonzalez Reg and Gonzalez F.o.F. cut in my case right now and I'm kind of torn between, and really I just think it depends on the day. I might start buying tubes of Gonzalez for oboe cane as well to see how they work.

O yes I've heard great things about Gonzalez! I've never heard of Canyes Xilema though, will they work ok on a Behn Artist?

I'm sure they will. You could contact Ben Redwine and ask him what strength he'd suggest also. I found out about them when I ordered one of his mouthpieces.

Further to the Razzco Oboe reed talk...
I ordered two medium Razzco oboe reeds from an eBay Australia store.
I hate to say it, and I’m really not a complainer, but as an oboist of twenty years, these reeds are total rubbish.
Definitely way softer than medium, one reed is 2mm shorter than the other, the tips are not cut perpendicular. They have obviously been machined and not inspected or corrected at all. They are as responsive as a dead fish.
For $27.95 I would have expected a lot more.
Sending them back first thing in the morning for a refund.

I just bought some Canyes Xilema Artesana as an experiment. Not a success. At the same stated strength as V12's, I found they had incredibly thin tips, which tended to collapse into a buzzy sound reminiscent of a comb and paper on being blown with any degree of robustness.
