Unusual mouthpiece

I came across an old Buffet mouthpiece with a very old Couesnon clarinet (perhaps from the 1940's or 50's. - one line up, three down, with the logo below the bottom three lines. I figured this to be a Riffault or Chedeville blank. However, on the table on the mouthpiece, it is inscribed N1 and just above that in very, very faint lettering (I had to read it with a magnifying glass), it says Woodwind. Perhaps some of the mouthpiece experts out there could provide me with a bit of history on this one. Was Woodwind Co. making mouthpieces for Buffet at some time in the past? Is N1 usually found on Woodwind mouthpieces as I have seen it on Riffaults...

Just to complicate things...I have a Selmer oval HS* with a faint 'Woodwind C7' writing on the bottom of the table. I have no idea about it's story.

Your hunch about it being a Chedeville may be right.

While this is a topic I bear no expertise in, other contributors do.

If you get a chance, why not pull if the "keepers" list of threads from this bboard and find the one originated by bwilber entitled, "How to tell a Chedville mouthpiece."

I'll bet, if there isn't useful information there, then there's at least useful contributors in the thread, who know their way around "mouthpiece archeology."

It's an intriguing piece as I have seen other mouthpieces marked N3 and N4 that seem to be made by Riffault for clarinet makers. Although this one does say woodwind on the table, it's much more similar to the other Buffet Cheds in my collection. Or, perhaps Woodwind co. was making pieces for French companies back in the 30's or 40's - perhaps during WWII ? Thanks for any help on this.
