I was just wanting to ask a favour for both my dad and myself. I'm in the process of buying an R13 Eb, but because the Aussie dollar is quite weak at the moment, we were interested in the retail price of the instrument in stores in the united states. The price we have been told buying it here is $3800 aussie dollars. Thanks.

Hi, Nick. I have been looking at a new Buffet R-13 w/silverplated keywork and I have been quoted $1775 to $1900 (price for nickel averages about $100 less). This is standard dealer setup --- check key heights, pads & corks, & check rings. I guess anything that is obvious gets fixed --- at least at the folks I have checked with. Best said --- my prices include no premium services. With shipment & insurance to AUS from the U.S. (assuming it will be shipped) I'd guess that you wouldn't be saving much. When I converted $3800 AUD to the USD$ ... I got $2072 at the close of the markets today. Best of luck. mw

$3800 AUD is about $1900 USD, right? I think the Australian dollar is about half ours. $1900 is a good price. I believe Eb's cost substantially more than that here... $2500 USD or so. Ok... I just did the conversion online and came up with about $2000 USD, so I think that buying right there in Australia would be cheaper.
I am pretty sure that an Eb runs between $2300- $3000 these days, but if anyone can correct me, please do... (It also HIGHLY depends on where you are buying from...)
Good luck!

I have heard that Patricola make very nice Eb clarinets, cheaper than the Buffet top models, and they have retailers in Australia. See their web page at: www.patricola.it
good luck

Sorry, I missed the "Eb" ... my vision isn't what it used to be. BTW: WW&BW will email you a price quote anytime. Quick &^ easy. Go to :
http://www.anne-bell.sneezy.org/
When there, Click on RETAIL & then go DOWN to "Instruments & Accessories" Click on "Woodwind & Brasswind". Ask for a quote through the system from the R-13 Eb.
For conversion of currency their is NO RULE OF THUMB. Rather, it varies from time-to-time & day-to-day. AND, it goes without saying, if you aren't careful and you don't KNOW .. you could be taken advantage of .. or be a "victim". (of course, that always isn't the case ... but always better to be safe, than sorry)
on that note ... and in keeping with the Sneezy motto ... "for those who plain just want to know" ... please visit the following site (there are many just like it). I have found this site to be very easy to use when converting currencies to the $USD (read: U.S. Dollar) :
http://www.xe.net/ucc/
Good luck.
