1940s Pedler bass clarinet

Hello from Mexico.
I found a really cheap Pedler custom bass clarinet (I'm thinking it must be 1940s) and bought it because it plays quite well and didn't have the budget to get any other wooden one. This model comes with a neck that is shorter and has no angle which makes it uncomfortable to play. At first I thought it would be no problem going to a technician to have one custom made but it has been impossible to have one made here in Mexico city. Would anyone know of someone who could make one in the States? Any idea on how much it would cost?

Dave Spiegelthal is the man to talk to. He re-angled the neck on my Pedler bass and now it is much more comfortable to play. Here is his contact info:

David Spiegelthal is a wonderful resource and truly one of the good guys of the clarinet world. Your Pedler bass will be in good hands with Dave.

The "Spiegelthalized" Boosey & Hawkes 8-10 B-flat clarinet I recently purchased from him is a stunningly fine instrument. I look forward to playing it blissfully for the rest of my clarinet career.

Charles Bay is known for his "improved angle" bass clarinet necks. Unfortunately there is probably a 0% chance he will have one for a Pedler bass so you would need one custom made. You can contact him here:

From a cost standpoint your best bet would be to have the original neck re-angled instead of having a new neck made. Most repair technicians should be able to do the job but be prepared to pay for a few of hours of labor. Personally I wouldn't go with the lowest bidder on a job like this as if it's done wrong you can ruin the intonation of the instrument. I would also consider that it would be nearly impossible to find a replacement neck for a rare instrument like yours if the job were botched.
