Never heard of them. Either I've been living in a cave all my life, or they are not all that famous.

They have a couple of recordings with Sony.
One of them is a double-cd and then has a second edition with a dvd.
Take a look at NY Times for some reviews. Or google it, they have a webpage and you can read about his calendar, educative programs and competitions.

According to the article the orchestra was just founded in 2004. I hadn't heard of them either.

This conductor is very talented and very easy on the eyes.
She is talented and has a career as a conductor but building a new orchestra in these economic times is a challenge that few (if any will be able to achieve).
She would be better off starting a chamber orchestra in Beijing (where the money is) or using her political connections in Mexico to start yet another orchestra in Mexico City.

She is the daughter in law of Vincente Fox so I think she would do just fine getting an orchestra together in Mexico City.

Small orchestra like that come up here and there all the time and when things get tough they are usually the first to go because of money problems. It is too bad, every large city should have several of these types of orchestra's to serve the public but someone has to fit the bills. ESP eddiesclarinet.com

She's the DIL of former president Ernesto Zedillo. Judging from the one time I worked with her, she is an excellent conductor.

I was actually surprised to learn that this orchestra was going under for financial reasons. My understanding was that the conductor was very well connected and that their tour, recordings, etc. had been privately financed. The tour was apparently first class all the way. Money didn't seem to be an issue, so I wonder what changed.

It seems to me that if your touring a full orchestra like money is no issue, it's just a matter of time until money becomes a significant issue.

That would seem to make sense, but the other side is that touring as if money *is* a big issue scares off potential backers and ticket buyers. Until/unless financial problems grow so dire they can't be hidden, it's in any entertainment organization's interest to look successful, no matter what's going on backstage. People edge away from anything that looks like failure.
When I worked as a temporary gofer at the Metropolitan Opera's National Council (the fundraising organization), part of my job was to answer and route phone calls from donors and to greet them at the office door when they showed up in person. My boss taught me never to "cry poormouth" to those people or act as if we reeeeaaaallllly needed that money desperately. Always look and sound cheerful and successful, she emphasized. Dress well. Stand up straight. Look people in the eye. Success attracts those who want to be associated with success. Of course it helped that I didn't have to try to put on an Oscar performance, since the Met really was successful!
