Hello All,
My professor, J. David Harris, mentioned to me that R. Marcellus made a recording of Premier Rhapsody, privately, with the Cleveland Orchestra. I was curious if anybody has, or knows of, this recording and has access to it.
Also, I've there is a record label re-mastering Marcellus recordings and putting them out on CD... I just don't recall which. Or maybe what I heard was rumor. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Do a search. I have posted dozens of Marcellus recordings including the Debussy as well as live Mozart recordings and the Gran Partita.
I just checked... Looks like the Marcellus stuff is not up anymore. I'm out of town now and will be for another week or so. Maybe someone else on here can help you out.

Here's the start of something I should have done a long time ago. I'm still working on the quality of the sound. Any pointers would be great. I'm using a Mac with iMovie because that's all I know... so any thoughts?

Truly excellent playing. Marcellus was in great form even for him. The oboist was undoubtedly Marc Lifschey.
However, as you say, the sound is pretty crunchy. It would be insanely great if you could put the entire thing up on your site or
DropBox.

Are you sure it was Lifschey? I just did a search on him and read his obit in the SF Gate. It said he was principal in San Francisco from 1965-1986 and in Cleveland from 1950-1965. My recording is definitely from 1969.
Re the crunch: there must be a way to upload high quality to youtube; I hear it all the time. Anyone know how???

Oops. I should have looked at the Cleveland historical musician list http://www.stokowski.org/Cleveland_Orchestra_Musicians_List.htm, which shows that John Mack was principal from 1965-2001. The list is not absolutely complete. I know, for example, that DeVere Moore, the oboe prof at Oberlin and a great player, stepped in for a while after Lifschey's precipitant departure, but he probably was not a formal member of the orchestra.

i only have the very beginning and end of the recording... i know that whole recording has to be floating around somewhere, but for some reason a version of just the beginning and ending has been making its way around too...
