Question: What are the different types of clarinet groups you can have?
Are there any traditional mixes? - Or is it just a case of throwing in whatever's there?
- I always try to be one step ahead of everyone else, and not 1 step behind! Now that I've entered an advanced clari group with my Bass I'm finding myself a little behind with the general info.
Can somebody fill me in?
Thanks.
DLE.

LOL this is a loaded question. You are probably talking about instrumentation - and truthfully, there is music for clarinet with ALL kinds of instruments. There are choirs, trios, quartets, woodwind quintets.....I could keep going.
Now if you were talking about actual groups to Play in.....Usually you won't find groups per se, unless there is a teacher who wants to start one. Most schools don't have them. College music departments often do.
I have one that I run out of my studio, made up of my better students, professional players (including my husband, who is former principal of a major US orch.) and amateurs. Since I don't teach in one school district, I had to make my own group. And we have a blast.
If you want to throw something together yourself, all you have to do it go out and get music, and find people to play it with you. It's that simple. Have fun!

My group "La Reeda Loca" contains 4 of us.. we use various arrangements including: 4Bb sops, or 3 Bb' sops and a Bass or my fav Eb sop Bb sop Alto and Bass. We've found it really easy to use Recorder quartet repertoire in a pinch for filler music when we do receptions etc.... with the 1St Bb sop playin 8va the Sop recorder part, the 2/3rd playing the alto/tenor recorder parts as is and the Bass as is on the bass part. You dont get arrangements that use the full range of the intrument.. but the parts are more readily available. Blake

Try transposing some of the brass quintet stuff for clarinet choir. There's loads of this more available than for clarinet.

The idea of transcribing Brass Quintets brought something to mind. The Newsgroup for users of Noteworthy Composer has one user who frequently uploads some nice sounding brass quintets.
If you get the program (shareware, $40 to register), you can download arrangements from the newsgroup, transpose them in the program and print them out ready to go.
