On April 16th I finally got my new clarinet a Buffet R13. I had 7 to choose from and my teacher to help me pick. Out of curiosity I wanted to know the exact year it was made so I went to the Buffet website and when I put in the serial # it comes up with not found. How can I find out when it was made?

I have channeled the Great Karnac. He tells me that your clarinet was made in 2010. The reception wasn't very good, though. I may have misunderstood him. For verification, you might ask the seller. If the seller doesn't know, they can probably contact the Buffet factory (or, possibly, Francois Kloc) and find out for you.
Best regards,

According to the serial number list at http://www.clarinetperfection.com/snclarinet.htm, Buffet was making around 12000 R13s a year in the late 1980s. Unfortunately, Buffet has remained silent about later serial numbers.
The first 1990 serial number was 324770, and 618457 is 293687 numbers higher. Assuming that Buffet continued producing 12000 R13s per year, 293687 divided by 12000 is approximately 24.47, which, added to 1990 and taking into account that you have to include 1990, your clarinet was made around 24-1/2 years after 1990, which is mid-2013. This is of course impossible and means that Buffet increased its production after 1990. However, Jack is certainly right in saying that your R13 is quite recent.
I certainly wish Buffet would give more recent serial number ranges, but repeated requests have gone unanswered. If François Kloc is still following the board, he would do everyone a favor by letting us have the answer.
