Question of the day. Music shop here is going out of business. It trades in mostly used instruments. They have a Selmer key of "A" full Boehem, 20 key, 7 ring horn. Looks old. Wood is great. Pads and cork are good. The upper joint rings stick a bit and obviously need adjustment. Haven't played it yet, but will.
Question is: I would like a "backup". This probably isn't the one. BUT, looks like a good "toy" to fun around with. Now here's what I need to ask. I offered $100 dollars and the guy said "It's yours. Go pick out a case and mouthpiece." Well I was dumbfounded. I figure a horn like that has to sell for way more. What do you real clarinetists think? To me the price is right. BUT am I foolish to buy a full fledged concert horn just to goof around with? And does it have any resale value if I decide I was a dumb cluck to make the purchase? Your input is greatly appreciated.

A hundred bucks for a playable clarinet including a mouthpiece you get to pick? Can't go wrong IMO.

Hi,
sounds good to me!!! A professional level name brand clarinet, and the mouthpiece and case of your choice!!! Not only that but it would be a cool old horn to have. And if like the clarinet and take care of your horns, then you should have it!!!

Given the opportunity I certainly would purchase it. I found a full Boehm Bb today.."P" series but not Centered Tone. It was probably purchased in Europe. I'm negotiating a deal for it and should know by tomorrow if it goes through. Yes, there is a market for such an instrument!

Yes, John, if it is a P Series and not a Centered Tone than it WAS not purchased in the U.S. mw

Grab it, John, before someone else steals it.

Look at eBay sometime. A full Boehm "A" clarinet of a major name like Selmer will often go for several times that.

Snap that baby up.
If you don't like it, you can for sure sell it for more than you paid for it. And you might just get a dynamite, highly usable horn for a bargain.

I must now hand off my "Bargain Hunter's" trophy. I thought my full-Boehm clarinet in A was a steal at $400 + a couple pads!
Lemme know when you go car shopping so I can catch the vibe.

I got a Bb Buffet full Boehm off ebay for 450 then had it completely overhauled. It plays
better than my R13 now! Snatch that baby!
