 Reed Trimmer

I used to have a reed trimmer many years ago and have been trying to find a Bb and an Eb Cordier reed trimmer. Are any of the other newer ones better? Thanks. Blake

I just bought a Cordier (Bb) from IMS. It came today, in fact. I've tried it on some reeds. It works wonderfully.

I'm curious about the "blade" on the Cordier. If it goes dull, how do you shapren it?

I've used Cordier reed trimmers for over 40 years. For me, they work better than anything else. Unfortunately, you can't sharpen the cutter. When the tip starts coming out ragged, you throw the trimmer out (or in a drawer) and buy a new one.

The Cordiers vary in the shape of the tip they cut. Take your mouthpiece and some worn out reeds along to the music store and try several cutters to find the one that matches the shape of your mouthpiece.

Best regards.
