 Accompaniment CD's

I am playing for a special occasion and was wondering if anyone knows if Aaron Copland’s concerto (first part) for clarinet is available on an accompaniment CD so I can play with the CD. If not, can you suggest accompaniment CDs of music for clarinet that pulls the heart strings? It can be any difficulty level – up to advanced.

If you get Smartmusic you will have piano accompaniments to most every major piece studied in undergrad.

Hello James,

What is Smartmusic and where would one find more information? Is it a collection of accompaniments on audio CD's or a collection of written music parts for piano?

Hi Eric,

Smartmusic is a program that you install on your computer: piano accompaniments, large ensemble pieces, and exercises you download to your computer as you need them. The program actually plays along with you -- and you can set the accompaniment to follow you to greater or lesser degree (you speed up -- it speeds up, vice versa).

It is a subscription service, and at $36/year a steal. You need a microphone as well -- either buy the one from Smartmusic or use one that you already have installed.

You can use the "find music" tab on the website to determine whether the piece(s) you're looking for are in the archive.

Hi James,

Thanks for the info, I just had a look at their website and music search. That is a great service! I can't find the Copland Concerto though.

It's there - under the Clarinet Accompaniments (no sheet music provided, only the accompaniment track)

I ran the first online Accompaniment CD business (before Smartmusic existed (before Vivace also)) that was custom tempo accompaniments.

The Copland Concerto was a work that I did.

You can find a midi version of the concerto (orchestra accompaniment, not piano) here:

If you have music notation software that can input midi files (e.g., Finale PrintMusic and above), you can input the file and mute the clarinet part to create an accompaniment. You can also adjust tempo, if you wish.

Best regards,
jnk

On the LA Clarinet Institute site they have MIDI files available for download. They have the Copland Concerto there. Using a program such as Finale or Garageband you can remove the clarinet track and just listen to the accompaniment while you play.
