 La Monte brand name

I play a lovely old Signet clarinet, but was just offered a La Monte alto sax for under $50.00. Does anyone know anything about these instruments? Where were they made and by whom? Are they a copy on a famous maker?

I believe La Monte was the brand name of the student line of instruments manufactured by the French Martin Freres company.
