Metal Clarinets

Many very find photos and catalogs of metal clarinets are at http://www.clarinette-metal.fr/.

The Clariboles board also has excellent material http://clariboles-et-cie.blogspot.com/search/label/Clar.%20m%C3%A9tal.

Both are in French, but the photos need no translation.

The Yahoo Early Clarinet board has become active again on this subject after a slow period. If you have any interest in older instruments, the board is worth following http://launch.groups.yahoo.com/group/EarlyClarinet/messages.

You'd be disappointed - they sound just like any other clarinet. At least there's nothing "metallic" about them; many being "student class" instruments, they sometimes suffer from funny intonation and so, but not inherently differently from wooden or plastic instruments.

When I listen to the musical excerpts on the clarinette-metal.fr site and I hear a differences between the George Lewis and the Birger Lindstrom clips, am I hearing the difference between Albert and Boehm systems (along with the differences in the players, of course)?
