Please clarify something for me if you can.
I read on this forum where you had to be affiliated with a school or a teacher in order to get the "Student" version (now $36/year). However, when I called SmartMusic's Sales number and asked the guy if I had to get the $140 "Educator's" version, or if I could just get the "Student" version, he said since I was not going to be using it in conjunction with a teacher or a school, I could just get the $36 Student version.
He never even tried to push to Educator Version on me...said the Student one was all I needed. Do any of you all just have the student version without being affiliated with a teacher or a school?
The reason I am even questioning this is because the guy seemed to be a bit "new" at his job, so I'm wondering if he really knows what he's talking about.

The Educators' Edition includes a lot of utilities that a teacher would use to track, assess and evaluate members of a class, but an individual user wouldn't need these.

Along with Karl's perfect explanation: your thought of the student needing to be "affiliated" is not exactly correct. In the beginning I thought that was how it worked as well, but it's just not the case.
I have found everyone I've contacted at Smartmusic to be very helpful! Many private students of mine use the program through my studio, along with the tiny band program that I direct.
