Vaughan Williams 6 Studies in English Folk Song note question
Author: DavidBlumberg

In Measure 16 of the Williams English Folk Song Mvt V - the low note beat one, is it E, or D as printed?

I've got 2 recordings of it being played both ways, and with 2 very good players.

I like E, but is it the dissonant D on purpose?

The written D is a misprint. The correct note is a written E.

Look at the passage in measure 4.

Also, measure 21, measure 33.

BTW - The piano score has the correct note :)

Yeah - Janet Hilton plays it a D, and since she's English, and a very good player, I wondered about that.
