 Brand New Clarinet Concerto

Folks - composer Kevin Walczyk has finished a brand spanking new clarinet concerto for a consortium of universities that was written for clarinet and wind ensemble and dedicated to Joseph LeBlanc of the US Marine Band. I don't know if it's happened yet but it is supposed be premiered with LeBlanc and the University of Kansas Wind Ensemble in Spring 2011.

The publisher Keveli Music, has a copy of the solo part available for free on their website.

Thanks

I downloaded it and had a look. Youch!

No key signatures!
A very large number of time signature changes. How does one count (or conduct for that matter) a measure with an ODD number of 1/8 th notes following measures based on 1/4 notes?

It is cool that Keveli put in the fingerings for the "extended technique" passage.

I think that there are some really wonderful gestures in there, but wonder if they couldn't be written using more conventional notation --like with tenutos and grace notes.

Quite a challenge to an old stuck-in-the-mud guy.

Looks rather fun. Would like to possibly play it here in London.

The drawings for the multiphonics are pretty nice. I haven't played through it yet but it's on my list of things to do along with the Ticheli Concerto, both of which are on my music stand.

Walczyk's Symphony No. 2 which is written for wind ensemble is a phenomenal piece of music. Just premiered in September of 2010.
