I am looking for the smallest, thinest single clarinet case available. I am doing more travel than I used to and if I had a thin clarinet case I could fit into the lid of my porter case ( the best carry on case ever made!)

Yamaha pro/Custom single case seems to be the thinnest on the market.

The yamaha student clarinet case is smaller than a lunch box. It comes with the plastic models, but you can buy it separately for very little.

Duck tape and bubble wrap is great but this is my carry one and the first thing these TSA guys do is untape anythings that's taped. fed ex bags are better but I think I can devise a more elegant solution.

I would vote for the ingle pochette case or the Yamaha student case if you want to go cheaper

The Yamaha case my friend had with her YCL 450 (or was it 650?) was the smallest case i've ever seen.
Here's how i transport my eefer when i'm flying- wrap it in bubble wrap and slide it into a plastic tube (with stoppers at each end). I put the bell in a cloth bag and carry it separately. This plastic tube fits into the outer pocket of my double case cover (Olathe), and if i think it's worth it i can actually put the empty eefer case into my checked on luggage (though i usually don't bother).

I got a ProTec double case shortly after it was introduced. I don't know about their current models, but mine is very loosely fitted and allows the joints to rattle around. You'll need to cut strips of foam or bubble wrap to tuck around the joints for safety.

There is the clarinet part of the old Selmer Tray Pack Case although I understand the bell of a Buffet will not fit.

I've used bubble wrap, but with a hiking sock in place of the duct tape, several times.
