My favourite chalumeax recording is the Telemann double concerto with Musica Antiqua- Eric Hoeprich and... ummm... i can't remember the other player sorry. (in a mad rush this morning- but check this out, it really is a fabulous recording... also on the same CD is a great version of the Recorder/Flute double concerto)

Now, is this the earliest recorded use of chalumeaux or have any other composers before Vivaldi scored for them?

This one became famous because Lenny and the NY Phil. put out an uproarious Vivaldi LP in the 60s, with this as the topper. For some reason they used Heckelphones instead of clarinets.

I wonder why Biondi and the principal 2nd violin had aluminum foil wrapped around their strings below the bridge.

The recorder players were good but too nervous. If the 1st player had held still (like the theorbo player and principal cellist for example), they'd have avoided the chattering quality.

The chalumeau players were excellent, even though they put the reed on the bottom.

The chalumeau players that appear in Vivaldi´s video are Gili Rinot and Carles Riera.
Carles Riera was spanish specialist in performing on the historical clarinet http://www.carlesriera.com/en/biografia/
