I recently got a Vandoren B45 mouth piece but he cap I have is too large. I'm trying to find a cap that will fit, but the Vandoren ones are out of my price range. I've searched online and found a few generic caps but I've no idea whether they'll actually fit.
Does anyone know of a cheap cap that fits the B45 mouthpiece?

The cap usually goes with (and needs to fit) the ligature, not the mouthpiece. You put the cap on the mouthpiece with a ligature in place.

I use a Buffet cap with my Vandoren B45 and a standard, 2-screw ligature marked "made in France" that was in the case with the clarinet, a modern but used Buffet R-13 in Bb. Though the clarinet was used, I bought the cap new in a music store a couple of months ago, when I bought the Vandoren mouthpiece. I can't remember what I paid for the silver-plated Buffet cap but I'm such a cheapskate that it couldn't have been very expensive. Before I bought it, I was using a generic black plastic mouthpiece cap I;d had lying around. That cap also fit the two-screw lig. Karl's right that it's usually the ligature, not the mouthpiece, that determines what cap will fit.

The Doctor's Products has a cap that covers only the tip of the mouthpiece. It protects the tip of the mouthpiece and the reed (what more do you need) and even has a pad that you can use to keep the reed moist. It is very inexpensive, works well, makes practically no noise when you drop it, and a guy can drop it in his shirt pocket without changing his gender. Since I got mine, I don't bother using anything else.
Disclaimer: I have no connection with The Doctor's Products other than being a very satisfied customer.

I play with a B45. I have a number of caps and ligatures in my kit and pretty well any combination of B45, cap and ligature will work for me, metal or plastic. Are you fitting the cap with the ligature in place? It won't work without it, the cap clamps on the ligature.
