 Tony Scott

I took a long walk with the iPod tonight and listened to Tony Scott in the dark. The last cd, A Jazz Life (2006), and the double of the Bill Evans and Tony Scott Quartet (1956-59). Then I came home and did a search through the archive and he hasn't had a mention since he died a few years ago so I thought I'd bring his name up again. What a great player, what a beautiful sound. I think his version of 'Body and Soul' is one of my favourites and for a tune like that, that's a high spot on the chart.

Tony Scott was an amazing player, with a unique approach to the instrument and improvisation. He was also a fine bari sax player, a cool combination.

Quick youtube search turned up some videos of him playing. And I must say, thank you for throwing his name out here. No idea this person existed (to be fair, I don't know that much about music...lol. I just try to play the black dots put in front of me). But I'm very happy to have been shown! I'll be keeping an eye out and will probably be buying some music from him. Thanks!!!

Every musician does what it takes to put food on the table. Daniel Bonade endorsed Leblanc clarinets, even though he played only Buffets. Tony Scott endorsed Vibrator reeds. All the music magazines used to carry an ad saying "I play only Vibrator reeds - they're the best." Actually, Vibrators were, by a long distance, the worst reeds ever made.

Takes nothing away from his talent, though.
