Hi
I found a fingering chart for this KinderKlarinette (German for Children's clarinet) on the woodwind fingering guide of sneezy ( www.wfg.sneezy.org ). Quite strange fingering system... Does anybody have more info or pictures on it ??

Hi Ken,
On the Boosey & Hawkes web site www.boosey.com/ go to the instrument list under clarinet and you will probably find a picture of one made by Schreiber which is a German system kinder klarinette and is basically fingered on the German system but pitched in Eb soprano to make the holes easier to reach. There was, about 15 years ago, an attempt at a Boehm equivalent which had the basic boehm fingering without chromatic keys or trill keys.

Hello Ken,
this particular "<b>Kinderklarinette</b>" (model type '<b>C1</b>', maple wood) is made by Guntram Wolf at Kronach, Germany [email: <a href="mailto:guntram.wolf@t-online.de?subject='Kinderklarinette C1'">guntram.wolf@t-online.de</a>] and is <b>pitched in (high) G</b>. You can use (german) Eb clarinet reeds, but the shaft has to be shortened. Due to the generally difficult intonation with such a high pitched instrument you should start with 'altissimo fingerings' much more early than compared with a Bb soprano clarinet, espacially at this 'few key instrument'. The register key is a little close to the thumb hole for my fingers, but I can still manage it.
I do not know, wheather anyone other than me uses a range of two octaves plus a sixth at this instrument, allthough I do not play it too frequent.
Finally, it's a nice instrument for backpack tours, and transposing 'sight reading' a part written in C is not so hard (mainly in the chalumeau register).
Moreover, there is a similar instrument (but whithout bell, and a longer mouthpiece so you do not need to shorten the reed's shaft) called <a href=http://www.moeck-music.de/instrumentenbau-inhalt11.htm>"Sopranklarinette"</a> (<a href=http://www.moeck-music.de/english/instrumentenbau-inhalt11.htm>"Soprano clarinet"</a>), made by <a href=http://www.moeck-music.de>Moeck, Germany</a>.
