Bad karma from rejected clarinetists.

Best regards,

Jack -

I think the position had been offered to Ricardo, and he rejected them.

Good karma from me to Muti, and no face-plants for Ricardo.

It's funny - I know everyone except me ages, but it's hard for me to imagine Muti as a 69-year-old with possible health problems. My image of him (as I suspect it is for a lot of older Philadelphia Orchestra fans) is still one of a vibrant, energetic, strong-willed young man who succeeded Ormandy as P.O. music director, had the city and the musicians enthralled, and then left in a huff when plans weren't proceeding well for a new hall to replace the Academy of Music. An almost 70-year-old Muti with (so far) unexplained fainting spells is a little jarring to my own sense of immortality - I'm only 5 years behind him.

Why doesn't every orchestra give their principal position to Ricardo? Concerts can be given all hours of the day and night to allow him to travel to each major orchestra. Apparently his playing is the only playing worth hearing.

Not to take anything away from Ricardo, but there are a lot of other fantastic players...

Hey, has the CSO posted auditions for conductors?

I have tickets to tonight's performance. I'm pretty disappointed. I had tickets to the Beethoven 3 program that he pulled out of as well, so I still haven't seen Muti with the CSO!
Also disappointed that they won't be playing the Schumann Piano Concerto. I was looking forward to that almost as much as Muti's take on Shostakovich

At least the Maestro Muti isn`t a clarinet player. I had a student quit because she - first of all - broke her wrist playing volleyball, then had her jaw broken in a car accident. The broken jaw ended clarinet playing for her. Hopefully she can find some instrument besides clarinet to keep her attention because she`s a fast learner and has no problem with rhythm or timing.

Sorry about your student, Brenda.

I hope Ricardo Muti recovers quickly. An injury serious enough to require surgery is no joke at any age -- and he probably fainted because of an undiagnosed medical condition. Not funny, guys.

Chicago tribune says Mr.Muti has permanent plates in his jaw and cheekbone area.

I hope the name 'Ricardo' is not cursed here at CSO.

At least he (probably) has decent health insurance, unlike all too many musicians. Best wishes for his recovery.

Any talk on what caused the episode in the first place?

He(Mr.Muti) said he was just too tired ,but I think there must be some serious health issue.

You don't take 3 months off when you're just tired.

Maestro Muti's underlying condition has been identified and he has now been fitted with a pacemaker.

David, let me guess this straight. The time-beater got a pace-maker?
Interesting times ....

not questioning the veracity of your statement ... just tried a little attempt at humour.....sorry. The irony of a conductor with a pace-maker .... is new to me.

I hope it's set at a nice Andante, and not an Allegro con Brio .....
