Does the Buffet E11 only come with a cloth material backpack style case? Or is it possible to get a brand new one with the nice leather lockable hard case? what does the E11 come with? Besides the clarinet itself. Ex: I always see a lot of extera goodies Buffet includes with some clarinets. Just been kind of curious. I know the clarinet it self is amazing and know a lot about it so I thought i'd ask about the small scale things that come with it.

Ask your local music stores - you can of course get them configured to your specifications (case, mouthpiece, ligature, etc., can all be customized ).
They come with a swab, mouthpiece, ligature, cork grease, 1 reed, and a pencil. Plus the case.
I have my students upgrade the swab, mouthpiece, and ligature, I don't like the ones that come with the instrument. Those that can afford it I have them upgrade the case as well.
I haven't seen any of the backpack cases locally so can't comment on them - the local stores in my area are still supplying new E-11's in the lockable hard cases. These are not robust cases - they tend to have problems with the hinges in a year or 2. Plus, they don't breathe well - and are lacking in storage space - I see lots of issues with mold on reeds in E11's with the hard cases, but don't see this issue with an upgraded case - a ProTec or Gator case is a better choice IMO.
I realize upgrading the case, mouthpiece, ligature, and swab changes the price point on them taking them above some folk's budgets. I'd also observe most local music stores charge about $1400-1500 for one, and I can get them for approx. $800 So... shop around.
The E11's are ok - I wouldn't classify them as 'amazing' - they are a high end student model instruments (some would call them 'intermediate' but I think that is pushing it a bit).
Most of the new E11's I've seen this year need immediate maintenance (set-up work) to sand down the tenons and replace 2 of the key corks that tend to fail quickly with a better quality cork product. Properly set up by a decent shop they're a good choice for beginning students.
Note that they are tuned to A-442 (64.5 mm barrel). Advanced students usually need a longer barrel to tune to A-440, or a different mouthpiece.

So no upgrade to the pencil...?

One of the main problems I've seen with the Schreiber made E11s from recent years is pads that tear very fast from new.

The $3000 R13 pencils are even better
Yup - top most pad - top joint - always tears - often times it is already torn on BRAND NEW E-11's - the same issue occurs with the made in France ones. Bottom joint fork B/F# pad - same issue. Goobers. How much more would it cost to install a few cork pads at the factory...

I do find this really helpful. thankyou. Would the E11 be an ideal instrument for a 6 year player? I do have a couple of other mouthpieces like the Vandoren B42 and the (sorry if I spell this wrong) Genmusa Excellente. I also have a Rovner light, and a BG super revelation ligature. I do also have a Gator case but after being outside for marching band, its starting to smell a little off. I've been playing a 38 year old Selmer Signet USA but it now has 2 minor and 1 major 3 in' long cracks in the upper joint. Is there another clarinet that would be around the same price range that might be better than the E11?

I think it's also worth noting the difference between the new E11 France (which seems to be the clarinet the original poster is referring to, as it comes in a Buffet backpack-style case) and the old German-made E11, which came in the maroon square hardshell case. Unless a music store has some of the old cases laying around that the Schreiber-made E11s came in, I doubt the case could be substituted unless you are willing to pay extra for a Pro-Tec or some other such case.
You would do well to consider the Bliss clarinets, btw, if you're looking for a new clarinet...they blow the E11 out of the water, and even the all-wood model is considerably cheaper than the new E11 France, and much better made.

So the France made E11 is better quality than the German made E11? One of my friends has the R13 and i've asked her if shes had any of these problems, she just got her clarinet in december 2010. She said hers plays smoothly and all notes tune just fine. Could they have fixed it or did she get lucky?

For less than a thousand, you can get a brand-new Ridenour clarinet, which will NEVER crack, and tunes much nicer than E11 models (in my experience) and has better pads on it. Tom is closing out the last of the Arioso models he had, so you might be able to snap one up at a very nice price:

I don't think it happens on the forum much. I know I make sure to diss all problems from all companies... and there are many... But outside, in reality, some teachers etc. automtically recommend Buffet student models for example.
