Hi Everyone,
Our band director bought a bunch of E11's from a grant that he got for the band, and has had a few issues with them. Really, just the same issue with a few of them...
The pins/dowels on the left hand pinkie keys that connect them to the right hand pinkies keep snapping off. Is there an easy fix for this, or a way to order the pins so that we can replace them?

This is a horrible design flaw which Buffet has instituted on E11's, R13's and higher models in an effort to minimize the noise between the key connections. Even though numerous complaints have been hurled at Buffet they still turn a blind eye (ear?) to this problem.
Snapping of the pins has become far too common and in essence renders the instrument unplayable in concert.
Best to replace all pins with permanent metal ones. Most techs now routinely make this conversion on all overhauls
Finding replacement pins was at one time very difficult, but now some supply catalogues (Krauss) carry them.

In the UK these pins (nylon) are readily available from my spares supplier (Windcraft) so assume they should be easy to get in USA.
If constant breakage is an issue then suggest you get a tech to make up some metal pins, just like Buffet always used to use for many years.

Ron - yes.
I installed those on my A clarinet a year ago, they work wonderfully.
They are a bit pricey however.
I finally have a supply of the Buffet plastic pins - it took me two years to get them.
Buffet should be ashamed of themselves.

I see dozens of these Buffet clarinets each year but only a handful of broken pins - maybe players in my part of the world are taught to handle their instruments carefully! I do agree they are one of the weak points with Buffet clarinets. As for getting spares from Buffet don't get me started!
Metal pins are produced by Kraus Music products but they will only supply to professional repairers.
